Comments for AQA:
- The candidate has a clear statement which demonstrates intended aspects of representation such as the choice of two characters and what demographics they belong to and how they will be represented within the product
- There is a focus on a variety of media terminology to support how their product would engage an audience e.g. camera shots and sound choices
Next steps:
- Finish off your statement to include the section of audience and also consider locations and why you chose these in particular?
- Consider which other media theories you would like to reference e.g. Propp, Barthes, Todorov or Blumler and Katz
I will include a variety camerawork through low angles that connote to strength and power as the protagonist is able to conquer their anxieties, and establishing shots that reveal the background of an open field and connotes to a sense of freedom as the protagonist is also able to discard the hindering stereotypes of society, which reinforces the narrative of the music video. Furthermore, the non-diegetic sound (the song) will emphasise the narrative through the line "people are talking" that is subtly repeated throughout the song, portraying how there is always underlying judgement from others, however the final line "let em talk" depicts the protagonists ability to dismiss criticism and live authentically 112
The protagonist of my music video being of South Asian ethnicity will subvert stereotypes of Caucasian males typically appearing as main characters in media texts. This is also depicted by a Caucasian female featuring as the protagonists close friend in the music video, this challenges stereotypes through race, as friendships between Caucasian and South Asian people are rarely represented in media texts, as well as gender, as friendships between males and females aren't commonly shown in media texts either. 81
The target audience of my music video will be teenagers and young adults (14-21), particularly aspirers,
